INTRODUCTION
 
 

This Training Course is an integral part of the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) Microfinance Development Program (RRP: PHI 38579). The overall aim of this program is to improve household incomes, reduce poverty and reduce the vulnerability of the poor throughout the Philippines. This objective will be achieved through strategic reforms to

  1. Enhance the enabling policy and regulatory environment, and remove regulatory impediments and policy distortions, and to promote market efficiencies and increased outreach of services at competitive prices to the poor.

  2. Build viable microfinance institutions (MFIs/Banks) that can provide efficient, and cost effective, retail delivery of services to the poor.

  3. Strengthen regulatory and supervisory capacities and oversight for a sound microfinance sector.

  4. Increase financial literacy and consumer protection for the poor and the users of microfinance services.1

This Training Course in microfinance standards falls under Categories (ii) and (iii) above.
