Microfinance Sector Strengthening
Project
The Microfinance Sector Strengthening Project
is a United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Australian
Agency for International Development (AusAID) funded project
aimed at enhancing the capabilities of MFIs to provide cost-efficient
and sustainable microfinance services through the adoption
of the ASA methodology.
One of the major achievements of the Microfinance
Sector Strengthening Project (MSSP) Phase 2, include enhanced
and strengthened technical and organizational capacity of
the three breakthrough partner microfinance institutions,
namely: the Center for Agriculture and Rural Development,
Inc. (CARD-NGO), Lifebank Rural Bank of Maasin in Iloilo City
and the Center for Community Transformation (CCT) in adopting
the ASA microfinance methodology in the local context.
As one of the outputs of the MSSP (which officially
ended in December 2004), the Unit was engaged in the final
editing and crafting of the ASA Instructional Manual, which
was published in April 2005. This manual provides guidelines
to would-be replicators of the ASA methodology, based on the
experiences of CARD NGO, Lifebank, and CCT.
