More than 300 underprivileged students of Panibatuan Elementary School received various school supplies last Thursday from the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) as part of a special outreach project undertaken by the agency for the children of Morong, Bataan.
NAPC Secretary Domingo F. Panganiban said the project aims to ease the financial burdens of parents struggling to pay for school expenses and regular enrolment fees. The Panibatuan Elementary School’s faculty and students were on hand to welcome the agency’s staff, who in turn handed out school supplies, school bags, face towels and slippers to the children.
"Education has a significant role in alleviating poverty, so we're trying to provide children with the basic instruments they need to go to school every day," Panganiban said.
The NAPC chief, who led the entire NAPC Secretariat in distributing the supplies, said the agency was able to help around 343 students, ranging from first graders to sixth graders, in preparation for the school year 2010-2011.
